Rob Dyrdek Kick Flips a 2012 Chevy Sonic

Since Chevy released the Sonic last year, we've seen it do some pretty impressive things. In fact, 2012 Chevrolet Sonic has done things that most of us here at Connell Chevrolet wouldn't even attempt. It's skydived, it's parachuted, it even became a part of the world's largest claw game for a night. And with some help from stuntman Rob Dyrdek, it kick flipped over the world's longest skateboard.

No, we're not kidding. With MTV cameras rolling at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, Rob Dyrdek drove the Sonic up onto a ramp into a 360-degree spin over a gigantic skateboard, after which it landed on all four-wheels. Where did he get this skateboard? Well, he built it to beat the Guinness World Record for World's Largest Skateboard, of course.

That's just one of his World Records, though. Among 19 other titles, he holds the record for the most 360-degree kick flips in under a minute (12), the longest 50-50 rail grand (100 ft., 5.75 in.), and the highest skateboard ramp jump into water (10 ft., 8 in.). So when Chevy was wondering what they could do next to push the limits with the Sonic, Dyrdek was an obvious choice.

"With his outrageous personality and his willingness to try any adventure once, Rob Dyrdek was the perfect match for the Sonic,"1 says Kevin Mayer, Chevrolet Director of Advertising and Sales Promotion. Dyrdek was pretty excited to help Chevy with their "Let's Do This" campaign, too. He says of the kick flip, "I'm a Chevy guy from my '69 Camaro to the Tahoe I drive every day. The Sonic's power and sportiness made it the perfect vehicle for this awesome stunt."2

To prep the Sonic for its Stunt, Chevy equipped it with a roll cage, racing seats and racing seatbelts, just in case. And, even though the car is an IIHS Top Safety Pick, we recommend leaving the kick flipping to the professionals. You can see the flip, and learn more about the "Let's Do This" campaign at letsdothis.com.

We do know the Sonic is a lot of fun, though. Especially with a starting price of $14,765 (for the hatchback), and features that include a fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, remote keyless entry, StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control, and available Bluetooth, MP3 and USB connectivity. That's right, you can be safe and stylish without breaking the bank. Which is why we want to invite you down to Connell Chevrolet, 2828 Harbor Blvd Costa Mesa, CA 92626 to take one for a spin.
