Chevy Sonic Stars in its First Music Video On Super Bowl Sunday

If you watched the Super Bowl this year, you probably caught the Chevy Sonic having a bit of fun. Okay, a lot of fun. And with the help of the Band OK Go, it not only starred in it's very first music video, it made the music for the video. This was just one of many exciting spots for Chevy during the big game.
For years, OK Go has been releasing fun-natured and daring music videos - including one that went viral back in 2006 featuring the band dancing on treadmills in motion. And since Chevrolet released the Sonic last year, it's done its fair share of daring stunts - from skydiving to bungee jumping to kick flipping over the world's largest skateboard. So then, the band equipped the Sonic with devices to play musical instruments, drove along a two-mile stretch of the desert, and the car played the piano, drums, wind chimes and other instruments to supply the background music in the video.
The song, "Needing/Getting," is just one of two songs that gave the Sonic some pep during the Super Bowl. The other, "We Are Young," by the band Fun., plays along as we watch clips of the Sonic being hurled out of a plane, zipping through the desert, and bungee jumping into a California parking lot.
If you caught those two ads, then you likely saw the post-apocalyptic world in which only Chevrolet pickups and a box of Twinkies survive. You probably also saw the bugs taking a joy ride in the grille of the Sonic. You probably also saw Chevy Happy Grad, in which a teenager mistakenly believes his graduation present is a new Camaro. And how about those Aliens confused by the out-of-this-world capabilities of the Volt?
If you're keeping track, that's more than five ads from Chevy on one of the biggest nights of TV all year. Why so many? According to Joel Ewanick, Global Chief Marketing Officer, GM, says, "The Super Bowl is a huge opportunity for Chevrolet to connect with millions of consumers - before, during and after the game - without ads and digital extensions."1 And despite all of the fun in this year's ad lineup, "At the core of our efforts are great Chevrolet cars and trucks."2
